General Update (23rd November 2021)
We have added a number of tables back in now so hopefully we can accommodate everyone turning up without bookings at the busiest times.
Table service seems to have been overwhelmingly well received. It’s here to stay as it definitely helps keep service quick for you during our busiest hours.
If you still prefer to book, then you have the option in the winter of The Original Wine Bar Room, or the new Distillery Room which is a 50 seat adjoining building with a similar look & feel and with the addition of a working distillery by mid-December. We do have more tables now in both rooms.
For those wanting to stay outdoors, no booking required out there for sure! but we do have some tables undercover & nicely lit – but bring a coat as there is no heating.
Wine & whisky Tastings
We close these off in December as we need all areas for the wine bar at this time of year. Tastings start up again from February 2022. Wine/Spirits tasting vouchers are available from the bar @ £35 per ticket.
New for 2022, come along and have a go at making your own gin! Mixed/private bookings for up to 10 people working as a team to produce your own gin using our copper micro-still.
Darley Abbey Distillery
We are now a licensed distillery! Our copper still (well, most of it!) has arrived from Portugal. 1st production of our own London Dry Gin will be early in 2022.
The physical wine shop has had to make way for the distillery but we have a retail wine list with regular, seasonal offers available for collection from the bar, or local home delivery, and we will have the wine shop back in December for a Christmas ‘pop-up’
‘Sunday Sessions’ Live Music – Continuing throughout December.
We daren’t stop it 🙂 We are open 2pm until 9pm with live music every Sunday from 4pm including Boxing Day.
Whilst a wine merchant by trade (Est. 2007); in recent years we have added a wine bar with a couple of roaring fires throughout the winter & a 200 year old courtyard which we open up each spring. It is a fairly bustling place full of like-minded souls enjoying a good glass of something, in good company with great music.
There is inevitably a focus on wine here with around 100 wines on the list at any one time. We also have six beers on draft (currently Estrella Lager + 5 craft beers), and many an artisan spirit. If you are a fan of Whisky then the ‘Cage Of Age’ may be of interest! We have around 40 Whiskies. Food comes by way of fresh hand-made pizza straight from our pizzeria next door in the courtyard, and artisan cheese & charcuterie boards. Local business; GourmetEggCo provide some fantastic tasting Scotch Eggs alongside our expanded beer range.
We run wine tastings (Two Thursdays a month) which are now housed in our Distillery Room next door to the original wine bar (The Distillery Room becomes part of the wine bar at the weekend). There’s always at least a couple of hours of informative fun to be had at our tastings with half a dozen interesting wines tasted alongside accompanying Charcuterie & cheese.
We have recently acquired a distillery licence to produce our own Darley Abbey Distillery spirits. Our copper still has arrived from Portugal & we are excited to have our own Darley Abbey Distillery Gin available early in 2022.
Part of this development is our GinLab which will open for Gin Making events for mixed/private group bookings of up to 10 people. The 50 seat Distillery Room forms part of the wine bar Fridays & Saturdays at our busiest periods but is sometimes available for private bookings at certain times throughout the year.
For all of the above & probably more; you can find us imbibing away in ‘The Stables’ (built in 1805) within the historic UNESCO Darley Abbey Mills World Heritage Site.
